    I always wanted McCoy to have a reason to rake those two over the coals for that shit. He's a doctor, dammit. Whenever I rewatch TOS I'm super annoyed by the manly-man resistance to any logical (and responsible) attention to health, injuries, trauma etc. and I'm very glad those days are (for the most part) behind us.

      Alas, it isn't over in fanfic! It is pretty much UNIVERSAL in fanfic that The Heroes never go to the doctor/medic/healer/whatever voluntarily, no matter how badly they're hurt. Which I find a really frustrating trope.
