    Interesting look at Spock's relationship with his mother and her (and his) human heritage. He doesn't know if she washes those items by hand because it's traditional, but whether or not that's the reason it's a connection with history.

    (Also, now I'm wondering how Vulcans clean things--I'm assuming a lot less water is used!)

      Likely they came up with a sonic laundry unit way earlier than the humans did! Also, I think it depends on what kind of materials were used, or what they were made of, too.
