    That there is an all-systems arrest warrant out for him really hurts, y’know. (And Kirk out there, doing what he can (and is it more for Spock? Yes, but Spock knows that Kirk will do anything for him, and if he has Scotty with him, he’ll get swept up in that Kirk-specific defiance of the odds and reason that somehow seems to work .)

    Also painful: Scotty adding rafts to the list of shuttle equipment. As if he’s going to be in a position to have any responsibility over that kind of Starship stuff. Ooof.

    “Do you trust me?” And “he might be the only person still left aboard the Enterprise who could ask for it.” And finally—yes.

    Love the lookback, the story about the mission to get the probe back. Anything from that era is just candy to me, and if it’s the two of them and their long, unusual relationship looking out for each other? I love it so much. (And Spock and his ‘5.894 percent,’ so typical, giving Scotty a boost because it is so delightfully Spock.)

    “I don’t know if I can keep you from all harm in this, but I will do everything in my power to prevent it just the same.”
    It was not their usual method of communication, but it was sincere and truthful nonetheless.  And after another pause, Scott just said, quietly, “I know.”

    It isn’t their usual communication. So much is unsaid, implied, looks that mean more. But it is good to have it said.

Like, he's not even quite all the way in his own head right there, and even if he was, I don't know if he'd have it in him to look at what is essentially, probably, the end of his career. Because even if all charges are dropped, or he's outright acquitted, that was kind of-- like the only worse thing would be him meeting Nomad. But he's Been Through Some Shit.

      Anything from that era is just candy to me, and if it’s the two of them and their long, unusual relationship looking out for each other? I love it so much. Now you're making me wanna write more of it. XD
