Comment on Warnings Unheeded in Darkest Night

  1. Man, poor Garrett. Whew. I can imagine that look on her face, too; like-- very clearly. But it really was a good catch, the neurotoxin. Even if the weapons themselves are very weirdly archaic.

I get both Glal's and Trujillo's positions there, too. And I think I'd probably side with Trujillo; they really do deserve a service and to be honored, but a big component of that, I would think, would have to be finding out who killed them and what justice might look like for those losses.

“Unfortunately, you know as well as I that this will almost certainly earn the Abemeda system a warning buoy and a hazard marker on our star-charts. They’ll chalk it up to a disastrous First Contact overreaction by a heretofore unknown and highly xenophobic species.” Ugh. Sounds a hell of a lot like bullshit over there. I mean-- obsidian weapons and ancient weapons? The neurotoxin? That sounds like a slaughter. I mean, I have to keep in mind you're excellent and plotting a twist, but still. XD

Glal's little rant about where academy grads oughta go made me grin. Grousing, much? Also love the whole look at the difference between the Federation before and now; how their stepping back from a warlike stance changes things. I always write the TOS era -- and Scotty, who's the oldest of that bridge crew -- as being in a similar place of transition. You have the old dog (or wolf) who still automatically stands 'at ease' without being told and walks like he knows what a road march is (as his actor did!)-- and then you have Starfleet seemingly pulling hard for the TNG era.

I think you mentioned that, too, before: The unlearning and relearning of painful lessons.

Absolutely enjoying the detective work with DeSilva and Garrett there. To quote a Vulcan: Fascinating. Another banger of a chapter, great work!

    1. Absolutely, we have a Starfleet in transition and a handful of the old-guard soldiers/warriors clinging to the old ways of getting things done. That doesn't always sit well with Command.
