Comment on Where Angels Fear To Tread

  1. So... yes and no! Things will be explained in this fic, as it's intended as a standalone, but in terms of timeline, it does in fact take place in the middle of a series. So the Section 31 thing will be further discussed, but also have its own story later. This story is a step out of canon with the rest of it--we're not planning on the Star Wars characters being regular guest stars in most of the other Interpreter stories--so it seemed like a reasonable one to have be an intro/standalone--especially since a lot of the action will take place during the Dominion War, technically before the start of the series. (If we're not explaining things well enough, let us know! It'll be very helpful to know we need to adjust some of our approaches).

I love Hawthorne so very much. He's full of snark and compassion and rage on the part of the vulnerable. And yep, you spotted it--every Starfleet human needs to have one strange special interest from Earth's past, and Hawthorne's is superheroes. The "Cap" is absolutely a reference, one that bemuses and bewilders Chester.

So glad you like the societal commentary! I decided I really wanted Chester to have a strong background in humanities (rather than the hard sciences we often see) and then to highlight *just how vital* that kind of specialization is for a starship captain, including the historian's insights into societal trends (and the very similar ethicist's insights--the two fields are very strongly aligned!)

    Glad you enjoyed!

I'm *very* excited to hear that you're interested in the previous events with Section 31, we've got several fics on just that (and other earlier adventures with our crew) in progress. We're very excited about our 'pilot episode' fic that'll introduce how these characters ended up on this ship.

I am so so happy that you like Piper, that's my boy. :D He is very much a superheroes nerd, he named himself after DC comics Pied Piper, he of course makes Jean Grey of X-Men references, and since they became friends he calls Captain Chester Cap'. (He also has a not-that-secret soft spot for Lord of the Rings, as far as old Earth references go.)
