More and more promising, with the introduction of a no-nonsense commanding officer who isn't shy on personality. She's trusting Verde to hit the ground running, and respects the fact that he knows his job. Would that all supervisors in the universe were so accommodating.
I really like writing Janeera as this older lawyer who has a sense of justice. Her character background is that she has a reputation as being a civilian lawyer who's defended a number of Starfleet members in courts martial, until the sitting JAG (an as-yet unnamed rear admiral) phoned her up and said I need someone like you to help me setup a big office on Starbase 8. So, they directly commission her as a Staff Corps Captain and she's bringing that sensibility with her as commander of that JAG unit. But, she's also serving under severe limitations. When Leo becomes available and she's pretty aware of the circumstances by reading between the lines of what happened to him, she knows she's got the right person to help her turn things around.
