Yeah, it's grim, but there are glimmers of hope--Morgan Bateson brings with him his values from a lifetime in the Federation and he has allies in the form of Alexei and the new Emperor who sincerely wants to do right by his people. The Empire will never be the Federation, but it also will not allow itself to fall into the savagery of the Mirror Universes.
