Comment on Where Angels Fear To Tread

  1. An image of a hot cup of tea sitting next to an open book and in front of a shelf of additional books.

Another excellent chapter! I like Chester’s observations about Starfleet’s brand of military-lite (with ass-kicking expansion pack that can be installed as needed) versus a dedicated military that has no other purpose. I can totally understand her frustration with the situation. She’s a capable officer being treated like a child. I don’t blame her for needling Wolffe under the circumstances.

Also, hey Anakin! Presumably his story will stay the same as in SW canon. I wonder how Chester will react when she finds out that he became a war criminal and dictator’s enforcer.

    1. Thank you! Yes that was one of the dynamics I was excited to explore. Star Wars narratives tend to push characters who aren't Jedi, Sith, or clones (at least in the prequels) into a handful of roles. They're villains, the butt of the joke, hapless (and often stupid) civilians, or, very occasionally (mostly just Padme, really) get to kick a very carefully measured amount of butt before they're damseled and rescued. In short, Chester isn't performing *any* of the narrative roles she's supposed to, and no one knows what to do with this, so they're just sticking her in the 'hapless' pile.

This is, of course, a mistake.
