Comment on Less Clear and Clearer

  1. Oh man. I do know the shape (and shadow) of everything in that time period. On some parts, I really do hate it because I don't think you can shove a man three quarters of a century out of his own context and expect him to be just fine with it, or bolstered permanently and buoyed by a slightly patronizing 'thatta legend!' pat on the back from the TNG crew. Almost everyone he's ever loved is dead. His whole world has changed. He was already hurting enough to go to a retirement colony far away from Earth, far enough away that the Jenolan wasn't found for all that time--

Like-- on one hand, he absolutely was majorly, clinically depressed. And McCoy kind of held a metaphorical phaser to his head and went, "Either take these or get cashiered out of the 'fleet," and wasn't even strictly wrong to do so? But that's a different story. So-- possibly unwise. People can actually recover and get off of antidepressants, but going cold-turkey like that has probably made for a very rough week, and also all the things that drove him to it kind of still happened, so it's just probably very damned complicated.

Thank you. <3 Hard era to write, for sure.
