Oh my goodness. This is the fic I didn't KNOW I needed since 2009. It's wonderful! I think the fandom (at least the portion of fandom that I dwelled into - I drifted away from the fic-reading when it left LJ for Tumblr) used Winona only as this bad or absent mother, and missed the chance to do what you brilliantly did here. What she would think about Jim's sudden decision to enlist and what that would entail. Lovely piece.

Thank you, I'm glad you think so! TBH the "terrible mother Winona" fanon was one of my least favourite parts of AOS fandom/fic. I was happy when Beyond implied that she and Jim actually had a decent relationship.

Definitely agree. I think it was easy to paint Winona that way, out of 2009. And tempting too (I might be a culprit, but I just did it in my mind, not on actual written things). :D
Can't wait then! In the meantime I'll follow you! I also have other things of yours to read, whenever I feel like reading. <3 Not rushing you, though. I understand the plight to access to older material, especially if it's on other devices.
