They're good people. They just don't want to hurt anyone (unless some overly aggressive and obnoxious carbon forces them to...) And they were nice enough to try to warn the carbons about those Lovecraftian tongue-fish.
That was the idea that the song "All Good People" inspired - a story in which they're all good people.
