Comment on Early Warning

  1. Excellent chapter.

And another meets her hero. At an even earlier, formative stage. That has to be even more difficult, as well as rewarding to see Garrett at the daun of her career, as well as knowing what happens to her.

And then Gial and Trujillo talking of Trujillo wanting to test her mettle, realizing what such a test could mean, while empathizing with Chester having to endure it, while she might not be of the same mindset as Trujillo. Great empathy and great leadership.

Well done, and thank you, both!

    1. Yes, Garrett has a brilliant and tragic career ahead of her, and J'etris can't tell her about any of it.

Trujillo's realization of the true costs of such a conflict was hard for her to bear, a warrior serving in a largely peaceful period of history. Chester's pain was evident enough to become Trujillo's by osmosis.

      Thanks for commenting.

    2. Chester, (in this incarnation) started from me wondering about what happened to the 'ideal' young officers--the ones who were as much scientists and diplomats as anything else--who came up through the ranks during the Dominion War, and what happened to them when they became execs and captains (and could any of them return to those prewar ideals, after the brutal training of the war itself.) Would there be officers who'd find themselves becoming all claws and fangs during the war who'd then turn back and start determinedly walking toward their ideals again?

Here Trujillo catches Chester at the worst point of her career, as she realizes she's a warrior and good at it, and long before she has the option to turn around and again try to be the kind of officer she joined up to be. In some ways, they're a very interesting mirror of one another, a warrior in a time of peace and a diplomat in a time of war...

As for J'etris... her historical knowledge about Garrett is excellent. Her poker face around Garrett... probably not so much. :D Thank you for the fabulous comments!
