  1. I love that you tackled SNW!Scotty as both like-- a character but also as his own version of the character! I honestly think that's more interesting than SNW and TOS taking place in the same timeline. And it's interesting too, you really do somehow manage to hit a narrative voice somewhere between Doohan's and Pegg's versions, too. It's aching and holy shit, the closing line on that section is a gut-punch!

Then yours on the second and oooof. The ship screaming, except it's not her, it's all those people relying on her to keep them alive. And therefore relying very directly on him. Evocative the way you go through it; sharp, too, especially the description of explosive decompression.

And then our original in the end. And-- probably not too surprisingly, it's the one that's making my heart ache especially hard. Because he's been through so fucking much by that point and he's about to go through so much more. And of course he's haunted. And he's gonna be moreso. So-- thank everything for Spock's gentleness. And how you manage in one line to capture how much at peace within himself Spock is by that age too? If that makes sense.

    Excellent stuff. <3

    1. There is no way SNW Scotty is TOS Scotty. We are in a different timeline; Khan was born 2020ish for crying out loud! And other timeline issues. This is a new version and no one can change my mind. Which is great! I love having a turn of the dial to play with. His voice really does feel like a mix between TOS and AOS, but he is definitely his own character. I’ve been reluctant to touch him very much because we had 10 minutes of him and we’re going to get to know him better. But I find it interesting that the 10 minutes that we do have of him gives him a lot of similarity to some really traumatic events in the other two—ship and crew loss. The three of them would emphasize with one another very deeply, even with the age difference.

Mine is in the middle of everything on fire and falling apart, and he’s not convinced any of them are going to make it.

And then our original. Who has lived the experiences of his counterparts many times over by now, and has a lot more of it to face. And Spock, hours from his own death and sacrifice really is at a place of peace and offers that to one of his oldest friends. He has the only real line of dialogue in this whole thing, and I wanted it to be that way. One of these days I’m going to figure out how to say something about their relationship because it is doing thing to me , but maybe it will only ever be in the passing moments.

Glad you enjoyed this grim little thing.
