  1. This is my first review on the new Archive, Mike. It feels fitting to have it be a work that is brand new to me and the archive but also that it be one of your works as well. So here are some of my overarching thoughts having finished the story. I'll try to comment specifically on certain chapters perhaps too later.
To begin, my reasons for choosing this story to delve into as my first furore back into reviewing is that I've always appreciated the tone you've taken in your story telling and when you have gone for these what some might call 'left of field' largely unexplored avenues in Trek fiction, a JAG like fiction. It feels a very fitting setting for you to explore too, you've expressed a law interest, I think before spoke of a JAG type and you dabbled in Federation politics as a story telling vehicle. I appreciate these insights into the larger Trekverse, richly exploiting it for story telling.
But no cool concept is enough of a premise to keep a reader invested and reading until the end. This work did in fact keep me invested all the way to the end. That's because the premise of JAG like fiction became so much more. It became a thriller almost in terms of trying to work out the mystery of the AWOL prisoner and it became about Leo trying to adjust to his new billet (and others adjusting to him too!).
Apart from Leo, we are introduced to other interesting characters, all of whom had me wanting to know more about their backstory amid an interesting premise. Further, the ensemble like feel leant to the possibilities, with it feeling JAG TV show like in having the potential of story of the week mysteries and cases to be won. It felt like a verse with legs to it that could develop and run a course.

    1. The County of McCovey Cove

I'm absolutely honored by being your first read on the archive, Kev :)

I'm glad you appreciate my penchant for pursuing the less-seen aspects of the Trek universe and putting my own spin on it. I think it helps that I've been working in the legal field (litigation support) for over 15 years now. I'm able to put in my occupational experience into the story. It's also why this story spends a ton of time in the areas I work the most (discovery phase, analysis, etc).

And yes, JAG (the tv series) was an inspiration, but also Gibraltar bears some of the blame (or credit) when he asked me to create a JAG character for his story "Conduct Unbecoming." That's truly Leo's first appearance in fic. :)

Thank you again and I'm eager to read though the rest of your comments!
