Comment on Potluck

  1. Ok, this is my first reading this Jemison crew, I do not know if they exist in stories outside of this challenge, but the nature of this setting, the Pot luck, is such that it brings an immediate intimacy with the crew - serving I suppose the role of a Potluck in bringing lots of people to get know a little about them. And food is that great equaliser for people, cultures, aliens and characters never before met, as a means of getting us involved with them and giving a little light into some of their personalities. We see fun and easy interactions that speaks to the crew being familiar and knowing one another that invites us the reader to get comfortable. Then add in the culinary experience and acceptance of gagh and you are onto a winner.

But the laugh out loud moment, is the twist on it being the cheese and mac dish proving to be a controversial option! Ha! And of course, the concept as described: congealed breast milk of another animal - does suddenly make it sound as disturbing as eating gagh! LOL. But it also perfectly as a piece encapsulates the prompt of the cultural exchange and the idea of trying out new things.

I saw someone talk about how aliens would think cheese is really weird and you know what, the aliens are right. Cheese is weird! xD

I'm glad the familiarity between the characters came through, I feel like I always struggle with writing that!

      Thanks for the amazing comment!!
