Comment on Traditions (With Apologies to Tevye)

  1. I thought that Chandra arriving would beef up the emotional stakes and effects that both of them are going through.

Both of them are young and trying to navigate the changes and opportunities in their lives. They all have some of the same support systems to go through them, thankfully.

Thank you! I’ve been thinking so much on Starfleet since I started writing it for the first time. I’ve had so many headcanons over the years, but I think Gibraltar (perhaps) brought it home that Starfleet was depicted as too human/Earth-centric. Coupling that with wanting to make it a little more than just the US and UK navy in space—though it would always have that vibe—and I just sort of gelled some of my headcanons. I’ve spent a great deal of time in my work in military history (including ranking systems and military heraldry) along with avocational interest, that I wanted to turn it a bit on its head, for me. May not have succeeded, but hey, giving it a shot.

Please feel free to use the yeömetza/yeoman concept. Of course, since I put the umlaut in there, I may not know how to pronounce it ;=)

I like the concept of what you’ve done with the Border Patrol. For the time period I’m in, I think that I might be showing the genesis of what would become that more structured Border Patrol with the training systems (though with still the ‘independent’ thought of its members.) Right now, in the 2290s, they’re still struggling to make ends meet and may be a bit ‘taken for granted’ by TPTP. Hunter, who is going to become the next Head Border Dog, has maybe only commanded a regular starship once, has definite ideas and may actually be the ‘mother’ of the future Border Dogs. We may see the next incarnation of her ideas in a future Book.

Thank you for the wonderful comments and the read. High praise, indeed, coming from you!

    Thanks again!
