Comment on Esprit de Corps

  1. When the Marine Gunner speaks, people tend to listen. Or they should. Especially when there is a bottle involved for barter.

Love the atmosphere you’ve created here. You’ve gotten the feel of Griffin’s The Corps down so well.

Kelley, will defend her home. And after what she’s been through with her home life, she has a strong sense of right and wrong.

Love the pride at the beginning that Kelley had acquitted herself so well against the Klingons, then tempered with the political reality.

    Waiting for more!

    Well done, and thank you!

Yeah, Senior Warrant Officers are often portrayed as a particular type. I have a WO-2 in my Full Speed Ahead main series that takes over at tactical from time to time, and he's given a lot of respect by the other crewmembers. Also, I know that Star Trek has never officially used warrant officers (conjecturally Kosinski's rank insignia was suspect at being a Warrant Officer but it was never confirmed). But, since I was attempting to portray the Starfleet Marine Corps in the same fashion as the USMC is structured, I decided to embrace the idea of senior specialists who're most likely to have their 20.

Thank you for the high compliment regarding The Corps... I'm so glad you feel that I'm capturing the essence of that story. I've read and re-read that series from start to finish. I'm really sad that Griffin passed before he could return to give us one more book to tie up what happened with Pick. It felt like he was more interested in writing Presidential Agent than anything else. I really had hoped he would go back and give us a proper last book as he did with Brotherhood of War (at least before he added New Breed).
