Oh you know how much I love this. The change at the end of that run of misery—Corry’s had enough and calls him home, and he comes back to the safety of the fire. And avoids everything ever after. (Maybe—hopefully? Peter’s death?) Love the gentle of South Bristol, with them growing older together. Peter visiting; if Scotty’s been home since ‘68ish, his uncle has been home most of his life. And Corry, musing about it all, out to sea himself. Just a lovely lovely what-if
I am always bittersweetly pleased and sad that there are places on the multiversal dial where the Jenolen's crash never happened; I figure in this one, when Scotty came home right after Nomad killed him stone dead for a bit too long and then fixed him with a lingering head injury still healing, he didn't leave again really. Though I don't doubt for a moment he struggled for quite awhile. But in a couple of years from this moment, he will go back out when his ship needs stolen and Spock needs rescued, because love is love regardless. But I don't think Peter will die; I think he'll go into Starfleet, but he'll likely not be on the Enterprise when Khan comes back.
