Yes!! I was talking to miloowen not too long ago and she said something similar -- what's meant to be general sex-positivity in the show comes across as Riker having major issues with intimacy, and that's just begging for a fic writer to explore. Shit, I'm blanking on the name, but you know that series on AO3 right now, the ongoing gen series where Riker is a lawyer? I'm not caught up on it, but I opened the latest one today and saw a paragraph or two that made me go !!!! It was about how Riker's childhood was characterized by waiting for his dad to return, and the mixed emotions -- craving Kyle's company, dreading his abuse. As an adult, then, Riker craves positive reinforcement, but he's been trained never to expect it. I thought that was so incredibly good. I'm definitely lifting that. And I need to catch up on that series properly and leave comments, it's brilliant.
