It’s All in the Eyes

Summary:

A new captain remembers her salvation.

Chapter 1

Saavik stares at the holocapture of Spock of Vulcan. Her eyes move from his erect figure, with his hands behind his back, to the small figure standing next to him. A young girl, skinny, with a fierce expression in the green eyes. Her dark hair is tied back; she is clean, but her thinness and the expression—not just the fierceness—tells of a background of privation and trial.

She notices that she is looking slightly up at Spock. There is something else in her eyes she recognizes after three decades.

Or at least she thinks she can.

She may be only projecting the emotion after all this time.

An emotion powerful enough from even her Vulcan side, that she doesn’t want to suppress it. She wants to shout it from the center seat of her first command, the Titan.

Gratitude.

Gratitude for what her teacher had given her.
