Chandra looks at herself in the mirror, checking to make sure that her monster maroon’s coat and turtleneck are straight. As she does, she clinches her fists on the top of the tunic. Her breathing quickens as she tries to continue the simple task.

Something that was harder since she’d been released from the hospital. She stares at the still-angry scar along the right crest of her bald skull. She closes her eyes as the tears fall.

Later, she stands in front of Starfleet’s top brass, as Hunter places the captain’s bars at her shoulder.

She can still barely breathe.
