I might try

Summary

Janeway wanted to admonish him for rude behaviour at the table but didn’t have the heart to do it. These kids had all been through more than enough.

Notes

Spoiler for Starstruck. Written for the fan_flashworks prompt cream. References to Voyager and also Prodigy canon typical food restriction. Thanks to Tamara for doing beta for me.

I might try

Janeway waited for Rok and Jankom to take their seats before placing her own order with the replicator, “Coffee, black.” she stated, adding, “Holographic, this time,” to remind the computer that liquids were not compatible with her programming.

Once she had her mug she sat at the table with the two members of her new crew that she hadn’t spent as much time with as they generally went about their work in other areas of the ship.

Jankom shoved another spoonful of blood truffle biscuits into his mouth, chewing loudly as he enjoyed the meal he enjoyed before his captivity on Tars Lamora.

“Janeway, do you like food?” Rok-Tahk asked as she pushed her nutrigoop around the plate with her spoon, hesitating to eat the only thing she had ever been given.

Taking a swig of her drink, Janeway smiled at the pair. “I do, I mean, I did before I became a hologram.”

“Favourites?” Jankom asked with his mouth full.

Janeway wanted to admonish him for rude behaviour at the table but didn’t have the heart to do it. These kids had all been through more than enough. “My favourites are my mum’s caramel brownies.”

“Are they in the replicator?” Rok asked, hopeful that they might be the first thing she got to eat that wasn’t nutrigoop.

“They’re not. Sorry, kid. My mum wouldn’t give Starfleet the recipe for them.” Taking another swig of her drink, “Some of my other favourites are in the replicator though.” Janeway began to list some of the food she liked. “There’s vegetable bouillon, grandma’s vegetable biryani, eggs Benedict with asparagus, strawberries and cream.”

“What’s a strawbe?” Jankom started but couldn’t finish the rest of the word.

Janeway smiled at the innocent question. “A strawberry is a bright red fruit.”

“I might try a strawberry and cream,” Rok said as she pushed her barely touched plate of nutrigoop away from her.
