Summary
“My dear—Doctor Bashir,” Garak begins. “I don’t wish to offend you, and I certainly never intended to mislead you.”
“Really.” Julian’s voice is tight now. “Really.”
“I have never—desired a more intimate relationship with you.”
“Five years of lunches and holosuite dates and book recommendations and that fitting today, when you had me undress so that you could put your hands all over me, and you never intended to mislead me.”

Summary
If there is one thing in the galaxy that could intrigue Garak, it is a Starfleet officer with a secret buried so deeply that it has to be hidden beneath a persona as over-the-top as that of Julian Bashir. And, from that day on, Garak devotes himself to discovering it.
Or at least, he means to. Somewhere along the way, during those lunches that are meant to seem like friendly trivialities to cover subtle investigation, Garak finds that he’s rather more interested in the content of what Julian says—the ridiculous opinions he professes about literature and music and art, the sudden gushing explanations of his latest research project and the progress he’s made, or can’t seem to make, the open declarations he makes about Federation politics—and rather less interested in discovering whatever that façade is for.
