Somewhere along the way, during those lunches that are meant to seem like friendly trivialities to cover subtle investigation, Garak finds that he’s rather more interested in the content of what Julian says—the ridiculous opinions he professes about literature and music and art, the sudden gushing explanations of his latest research project and the progress he’s made, or can’t seem to make, the open declarations he makes about Federation politics—and rather less interested in discovering whatever that façade is for.
